im playing a solo berserker with i was planning on dual-classing to a mage, at level 9. i did and when i finally reached level 10 i lose my abilety to cast spells. the "cast spell" button is greyed out and i can only cast spells from the quick spell slots. im not wearing armor.

You'll have to hit level 10 in your new class before you get your former class abilities back. You will no longer be able to wear armour if you are a mage and want to cast spells.

That's very odd - I never had that happen and I've done it many times... Take off all your items - although that shouldn't matter... But if you still can't cast spells naked after u rest, there is something wrong.

lets take it again shall we? i dual classed FROM a berserker at level 9
and im now level 10 mage. i get my former abiletes back but i cant cast spells from the "cast spell" button. i can cast it from the quick spell slot but not fromthe "cast spell" button.

Are you under the influence of any spells? Its strange but they should return. Does the spell screen work as it should?

I really don't know what the cause could be other than the armor thing or sleeping? Let us know what the outcome is b/c I am planning on doing the same (dual class fighter/mage) next time I play through BGII.

Easy Nazgul(sorry again I can't do the ^ thing! Do I have to apologise again)?
any way you need to memorize your spells first. If you've done that, then check you are not under some protection from magic spell....maybe it's a bug.
Try shadowkeeper to see what's going on and level up once more.

Oh! Just thought! This happened to me with the Ranger dual to Cleric!
At level 12 my Cleric and Ranger classes swooped around!!!!
So instead of 12th Ranger to 13th Cleric,
It was vice versa and thus can't cast spells!!!

Sorry dude I misread your post. Physically look in your Mage Spell book to make sure that you definitely have spells memorized. Silly as it seems but check to make sure you're not wearing a cursed item or the like which has dropped your intelligence below that needed to cast spells. Finally, I guess it's not possible to dual to a mage if your int' was too low to begin with, but it may be an int' problem so check your stat's. Come back on this Nazgul, it's interesting.
