i have just got off the ship where i think spellhold lies (I don't know for sure) and i am at level 10 fighter and level 10 theif my other characters are minsc,jeheria aerie nalia and anomen they are from level 9-11 my question is,

Are my characters outmatched and siting there waiting for death?????

In my opinion you might be, I did it at a much higher level. Maybe someone has done it down there.

You are NEVER outclassed with the powerful weapons and items in the game. A level 5 warrior with a +3 weapon can kill a lich in the game, don't take any crap from any of those monsters! KIll them!
There are ways to beat anything no matter your level, you just have to find it. I killed a dragon with a solo archer once, Ive cleaned out entire beholder lairs with 1 mage with no 8th or 9th level spells, you can do it also.
Go play and worry about the game, not your players levels.

I am currently soloing a 15th level fighter in spellhold

Give it a go!
You level up quite quickly and the battles are easy as long as you use the right protection spells.
BE PREPARED TO LEVEL UP MAJOR!

At higher levels, some of the encounters are more powerful (e.g., a lich instead of a vampire) so you may find it just as easy/hard
