Im getting my butt kicked hard in a single and multiplayer game. Should I expect on a normal basis expect at least one character to die even around level 8?

single player chapter 2
Currently in the grave crypts where I a circle room, this evil woman brings in some 30 tiny spiders and always kills half of my team. Its unreal! No cheats, difficuilty is at easy with basic equipment. Before I have a chance to fire off any spells they are on my team and I cant get the spells off to heal my fighters. Any suggestions? Im thinking of just skipping this room and heading for the south dungeon that korgan mentioned. Thanks

Korgan fighter 2ac
minsc fighter 2ac
jaheira fighter/druid 0ac
viconia cleric -3ac
yoshimo theif 3ac
Me Invoker 1ac

multiplayer chapter 2
Trying to fight torgal that evil troll with his 2 giant trolls.. they are unbelievable. web and entangle slow them down at first, but they eventually get through. even with 1web and 4 entangles at the same time with stinking cloud, area poison, and insect plague they usually get through.

jaheira fighter/druid
anomen fighter/cleric
druid friend
viconia cleric
cleric/mage me
jan theif illusionist

I appreciate any tips.

Thanks

In the room with the spiders cast a fireball and watch them burn!!!!
Sure it will harm you as well but their poison is worst!
As for Tor-Gal it is a good fight!Try using all pre-combat spells suchh as haste chant ect and then lure him ALONE outside of the dungeon where he is waiting and tear him to shreds!
And Welcome to IW!

Really? You found those battles hard? Compared to a few others, I think they were pretty easy.

But then again, I may have fought those battles when I was at a higher level than you. thieves level up quick ;)

No problem man. What you do is fireball the spiders, or shoot them, cuz they are really weak and are easy to hit with missiles. But watch out for their poison!

Torgal is also pretty easy. Attract him out by going into his vision then run away. He should attack you. Then close the door when he comes in so that you don't get any unwanted visitors. Then hack and slash him. Then take on his cronies. No prob.

Hm, seems to me, that you are really at a quite low level. The fights in the crypt didn't give too much problems, only the vampire mage was a little hard. As for Torgal, you can kill him very easy with a cloudkill spell, which is quite strange, because the other 2 trolls in the room are unafected by the spell. But anyway, these two are quite easy to kill.

Concerning those spiders, I used a cloudkill wand on 'em. Worked like a charm. Since a few were out of reach, I also targeted a fireball their way. Mind, if your party is still very young, you may want to hold off on this battle for a few levels.

Thanks for the replies. I am currently in the level 8 range. I thought that seeing Korgan was around the same level I could handle his quest. Unfortunately, it doesnt seem so, so now I must figure out where I can go and what I can handle.

Also, what scripts do you recommend?

I use ranged attack with the thief, wiz defense for the fighters, and offensive/defensive for the druid, defensive for the cleric, and defensive for my invoker.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

side note, we were able, believe it or not to kill the umberhulks after quite a few reloads and switching to web/entange with lighting/fireball with some summoned animals and skeletons.

also, the fight for ployer (guy who cursed jaheria) was really hard.. quite a few reloads on that too whew! really excited to win those both, but alot of work.

Darklocket,

Regarding NPC script, I just turn 'em off. I control all of my characters. That way they do exactly what I want.

Looking over your multiplayer party, it seems to me that you are lacking a solid tank. I firmly believe that Jahiera and Anomen can make good secondary tanks, but every party needs a really good primary tank. Also, your MP party seems to have "too many" priests (2 druids and 3 clerics). Too much praying power and not enough fighting power.

I'd suggest replacing both Viconia and Anomen and adding a couple of rock solid tanks. Perhaps Keldorn or Korgan, depending on your alignment, as your primary tank. And perhaps Minsc, Mazzy, or Valygar as your secondary tank. All three of these are good with bows (Mazzy is 5* with short bow) and your MP party doesn't have any archers.

I agree with previous posts. Drop a fireball in the center of the room and watch the spiders burn.

Regarding Torgal. Don't bother with Insect Plague. Summon whatever monsters you can to act as cannon fodder to keep Torgal and his buddies away from you. Using web and entagle was a good idea. Follow it up with fireballs, skull traps, and cloudkills. Also, Focus as much of your party's combat power on a single tough enemy at a time.

Oh, also fight the Torgal battle at the entrance to the room. Use the doorway as a choke point. If done properly, you will only need to fight one tough troll at a time. Have one character run into the room, get the trolls' attention and run back to the rest of your party who should be arrayed in battle formation with summoned allies.

What?? I found that one of the most usefull spells there are!!
It completely stops mages getting any spells off at you giving you enought time to beat 7 shades of sh*t out of the rest of the offending party. A bit of the subject I know, but i thaught I'd chuck in my 2 cents...
