My party is getting close to the XP cap, and am just starting Underdark, and I'd like to install a XP cap remover, but I've seen some horror stories here saying that people aren't getting anymore XP if they have it installed... could someone point me to one that works?? thanks!

Well, I've heard those stories too. In one of my games I removed XCap - and nothing awful has happened. So I do not know anything about the horrors - is it true or not - but in my game everything was definately OK. The only thing - it seemed to me that without XCap the game wasn't easier than with it.

Since you are close to the cap, make a save game before you reach it, and then install the remover. I've never had any problems though.

I heard that installing the XCap remover by itself is insufficient for magic users. To get the full benefits of the additional experience, another file needs to be installed that will allow you magic users to gain more spells per spell level.
Could anyone comment on this? ------------------ "Butt-kicking for goodness!" - Minsc "Cities always teem with evil and decay. Let's give it a good shake and SEE WHAT FALLS OUT!!" - Minsc http://www.angelfire.com/rpg/wildlep...n/images/w.gif |
I never had a problem with the EXP cap remover, nor did I have any problems with any mages. The 5 spells per level for lower level spells never was a big problem, since you can boost your spells with rings (wizardry, acuity, etc). Just being able to cast a 9th level spell regularly helps a great deal.

Mmmmmm, if what I understand from TOB is correct, then you'll be able to get that experience after you install it. If you look in Shadowkeeper, your characters that hit the Xcap continue gaining xp, they just don't get anything for it (i.e., my monk-that I'm about to start the final battle with- has 3002833 xp, even though it only shows up as 2950000 in the game)

Yes you are correct in BG2 your characters keep gaining experience even when you hit the cap, but you can't progress farther then the cap. If you install the EXP remover, your characters will get their new experience.
My characters the first time through actually reached about 3,200,000 experience, but only showed 2,950,000 because that was the cap. Once I removed the cap, my characters were able to level up another level instantly. My super experience party, a group of 5 fighter/mages reached almost 4,000,000 experience. The experience for just inscribing scrolls for almost 8 mages (my 5 plus NPC mages) gave me about 600,000 experience per character just doing that. So cool. Maxxed out at level 12 fighters/level 18 mages. |
