Big f*@ckin problem!! The damn lich killed the guy by the sarcophagus right after I talked to him the first time. I guess the password died with him! Now what? (i don't have a reload point very near that spot)

1) Use the Autosave
2) DON'T open the sarchopgaus. that is part of an unrelated high-level quest

Nope. Autosaves when you go down/come up from lower part of dungeon(where you get 1st half of device)

1. My character *IS* high level. (18/20 mage/thief)
2. I "fixed" the problem. I created a scroll that can summon the fool back to the game permanently. I didn't want to redo everything I'd already done, cause it took me 3 hours(I did the illithid chapel next door too. would've lost that bit. OUCH).

You could've just used Cluaconsole to create the guy without having to create the scroll, but as long as you got the result you wanted, it's ok!
