i dont really know of all that many other thieves in the game unless your playing as one but i never really have jan along for long dont know why i just always seem to think of him as baggage not great spell abilities and thieves arnt all that nescesary the way i play

1) Yoshimo
2) Jan
3) Imoen
4) Nalia

In my opinion Yoshimo was the best. You really don't realize how important he is until he's not in your party. His snares are what does it. Early on I was laying traps like no one's business and in the Twisted Rune Yoshimo single-handedly took out the Lich with about 8 snares before the thing could even raise his defensive magic. So my vote, Yoshimo!!!!

My opinion is the same. Yoshimo is (was, actually) the best thief! I liked him...

It would be nice if you could release him from Irenicus' enchantment and have him in your party all the way.

You can have him alive actually...
Just drop him off inside a building (e.g. an inn will do nicely) near the entrance and tell him to wait there. Once you leave Spellhold, go back to the location where you dropped him off. As soon as you enter the area and see him, pause the game and have the PC initiate dialogue with him. Then unpause and ask him to rejoin your party, once he is in your party he will die due to the geas. All you have to do is just go to a temple or cast resurrection spell and he is as good as new.
