I know this topic's been posted a lot of times, but I still have problems with importing my character. I kind of did it, but I don't know if I did it right, because I still had to chose weapon abilities and spells. I thought that when I imported a character everything would be copied, including the learnt spells. Which things do get copied?

So, can somebody PLEASE tell me how to export my character from BG1 and then import it into BG2. Oh, and describe each step if you can. Thank you SO MUCH!

the weapon categories are different in BG2 (you have seperate choices for bastard swords, two hander swords and longswords, instead of just large swords, and so on), so you always have to re-choose them. its a similar deal with spells, although it would have been possible to copy those over, but they chose to allow you to re-choose them for some reason.

what does get copied is your stats (including bonuses from those luverly tomes), your level, certain items you had _might_ show up in the starting dungeon, and a few later encounters will be affected by you choices in BG1. your equipment is stolen by your captor and sold (although he dosent seem to have sold it localy - id have expected a few pieces to show up in the adv mart or something).

There is a way to keep all of the equipment that your PC carried when exporting into BG2 from BG1. Just after you complete importing your character and the game is just starting, the screen will go black before fading into Irenicus' dungeon. Hit the space bar to pause the game. This will give you normal access to your character. Simply get into your PC's inventory and drop all of the stuff, then unpause. After Irenicus is done talking to you, you can pick up the stuff from the bottom of your cage.

I tried this tip that I got from this forum a few months ago and it works like a charm!!!
