I just went through the dream sequence and the asylum and it seems wrong that no mater what you do, your character first looses an ability score and then losses their special abilities (maybe just fighters - my class).

There should be some way to complete these areas without losing these attributes. It is not like I messed up or anything.

Is it just me or do these automatic losses suck really bad ?

You are SUPPOSED to lose your Bhaal powers, if that's what you're talking about, after all, u have lost your soul. And u lose an ability point when talking to the demon, yes u have to lose it.

Yepp, I agree, It sucks, but that's the way the game is I'm afraid.
But hey, all can't be good in the adveturers life.

Maybe i'ts bacouse one shouldn't walk through the game multiple times with the same character and just get better and better and invincible, like with the books in BG1
