how the hell do you kill the little bastards, I have tried everything, the only one I can kill is love, and the other three rip me up

It took me two days to come up with a game plan for that one. I moved everyone back to the other side of the room, where the staircase is. I called up as many summon monsters as I possibly could and had them form a barricade around me. I then separated my physically weak magic users in the back, positioning the healers behind a fighter so that the fighter would protect the healer, and receive healing from behind. My fighters were also separated from each other, so as not to draw too much melee into one spot. Then I walked up with my fastest person,(thief) and made contact with the dwarf I chose to kick it off with. I had a summoned monster by my side to delay him long enough for me to ge very far away. Then, my wizard cast a area affect spell, and by the time the thief got behind the battle lines to begin raining in the arrows, the battle was joined. I kept a close watch on everything, pausing frequently to change a command or weapon. The battle went extremley well, although one of the rascals broke through my barrier when the summon monsters were killed andgot at my thief. She was almost lost, but she held on by a thread.
I know you did not ask about my personal experience, but maybe it will provoke thought on your part. Good luck! ------------------ http://www.dewa.com/animated/7.gif Larry, ??? of the OHF |
The battle with the 4 warders is one of the toughest I've faced in TotSc - you're not alone in trying to nail those 4 creeps http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif!
Before the battle, I cast all the protective spells in my mage's and cleric's repertoire, especially Haste, Bless and Protection from Evil 10". I also placed my skeletons from Summon Undead to the west of Love so that they can intercept the dangerous fella under the Holy Might spell. Then I position my invisible thief behind Love (the only visible guy before the dialogue), start casting Entangle at the NW area (to ensnare the backstabbing dwarf, hopefully), and initiate the dialogue. Once the battle has commenced, I concentrate all my attacks on Love - I find Haste to be particularly useful here, since it maximises the no. of attacks my party dishes out. Next to go is the NE dwarf, as he is probably already whacking at your nearest character. I took out the NW guy with missiles, since he was simply too dangerous to let near my characters. Same goes for the backstabbing sneak (I also use Detect Invisibility at this point). Throughout the battle, my thief (enhanced with either the Strength spell or with potions) was zipping in and out of the front-line so that he could backstab as many times as possible. All in all, I reloaded about 4 times before I killed all the creeps without any casualties. |
I just finished this battle for the fifth time. Using the animate the dead, animal summoning and monster summoning shield with boots of speed run away and send out hidden thief with arrows of detonation. Got slaughtered the first couple of times but started to get better control of the battle about the fourth try. On the fifth try only Imoen got killed so I went back to nashkell and raised her from the dead. This is a serious add-on. When stuff starts happening it comes hard and fast.

This was a very tough battle as I remember. The most important thing for me was patience. On a more practical level though, I agree with Simonbarsinistar's tactics. Summoned creatures can keep the little lads busy while you work on picking them off one at a time, God bless their little souls. Summoned monsters last only so long though and I believe I also found a doorway or corridor to help maximize my attack and minimze their's.
