how do i change [program files] to [debug mode=1]

You don't change [program files] to [debug mode=1].

You ADD the line:

Debug Mode=1

as a line UNDER Program Files in your baldur.ini file.

I take it that D: is the name of your hard disc and not your CD-ROM drive? You can't edit the file on the CD of course.

To edit the baldur.ini file on you hard disc however, just open it with notepad, and add the necessary line of text.

That's a good point. ;)

Make sure you're editing the baldur.ini on your BG2 directory on your hard drive.
