First, I couldn't find a board for it so I figured I'd post here.

Thanks for the advice Mourn Yauntyyr and Lifetime. My curiousity got the best of me and I picked it up, and it's actually pretty cool.

I was wondering if I could get some beginning tips from anyone. No spoilers, just some advice on how one should develop a character. I've never played a game like this so I could use a little help.

I do have some specific questions though.

I've been wandering around the hive for like the past 4 hours doing a few fedex quests and whatnot. I picked up that old guy with the zerth blade, and I'm looking for that mage. I heard that she's the person you have to talk to in order to change your class to a mage. I was thinking of changing to a mage because I figure I need Int anyway for dialogue and Cha for interaction and so I could focus on Int, Wis, and Cha, and be a mage. Is that an advisable choice for a beginner. I'd stay a fighter, but then I'd essentially have to work on all my attributes. What's a good way to develop a character for a good experience? And where's the mage? If I get her, should I even be a mage? I'll have her and the Zerth blade guy which is 1 1/2 mages...

Also, I got those prayer beads for that guy with lines on his face and he's offering to teach me about weapons, but then he's talking about limited talents and whatnot, what does this guy mean and what should I do with him?

Thanks for any help.

Man, its been so long since I've played it...but I'll give you what hints I can. First of all the witch who will train you in magery (can't remember her name) is in the area where all the Collectors hang out. It's outside the slums and is called the city dump or something. You'll have to do a quest for her, but once you do that she will help you.

As far as classes go, you will get enough experience to get plenty of levels in everything. I think I ended up with a 9th level fighter/22nd level Mage/4th level thief. My advice, then, is to get some fighter levels under your belt first, then move on to mage.

I think that guy with the lines on his face (forgot his name too) is able to teach you specializations and can train you in fighter should you wish to switch back. Not sure though, like I said its been a while (prolly 3 years).

This really doesn't belong here. On top of which, you posted identically in General Discussions.

I replied to your other post, and though I normally wouldn't reply to the same question twice, I'm not about to make my other post any longer than it already is.

The mage trainer (Mebbeth) that you find is not recruitable. There IS a mage in the game, who is useful for what he can teach you, but it isn't necessary that you bring him along. If you don't, you can bring along someone else.

Pophiron is the warrior trainer, as you've suspected. Once you've completed his quest, he will train you. It's probably just a matter of saying the correct thing. You should take the opportunity to get rid of any unused weapon proficiencies that you may have by getting him to train you.

Its been happening alot lately hasnt it... double posting... its especially annoying when its on the SAME forum.. I thought the mods deleted them??

StarVid 01-19-2002 11:26 AM

I'm sorry for the double post, I didn't think it was such a big deal. I also didn't think that people who read this forum read the general discussion forum. Usually, when I play a game, I'm only on the forum for that game. But like I said, sorry.

goto www.gamefaqs.com and search for planescape torment for all kinds of nifty info stuff. Be warned if your weak and fall into temptation and spoil your self with some of the stuff there. But I played and went to lvl 6 fighter then switched to mage. Mage spells can be very cool in this game for animations. The pause in action to "take in the scenery" of the spells effect was well done.

My party was me, Morte, Dak'kon, Annah, Fall-From-Grace, and Vhailor.
Enjoy...

Vhailor can be bad news...try getting the Modron.

SPOILER ON GETTING THE MODRON

You need to get the Modron cube from the Alu-Demoness in the ritzy district (where the Sensate temple is). Then go talk to the Modrons in the Brothel.

I assume that means you won't do it again. And basically, a lot of us do read both forums. It's also considered net courtesy not to spam a host's forums with the same message.
