I've run into a mind flayer in the asylum that is giveing my party trouble... or rather a quick death. I've tried a few things, but was courious if I could pick this group's collective brains for good strategies to kill this baddie.

Thanks.

My best tactics for Mind Flayers was to summon skeleton warriors high level
priest and let them destroy the squid heads keeping your party out of
viewable range .the warriors will automatically attack them and destroy them
when they are moved close enough to see them.It worked quite well for me!

Welcome to the Board. The mind flayers are a real pain. They seem the hardest to kill.

Mind Flayers arent so bad, just cast chaotic commands on your main fighters and lay into them! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif

Welcome - By the way, Are Ulitharids harder or Mind Flayers?

Or is it just a name for them both?

A good tactic is also to draw or "lure" them in one at a time and charge your entire party at it as soon as it's isolated from the rest.

By careful though - watch it's target or it might be sucked brain dead. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Drewhead: do a search on mindflayer..you'll get plenty of good advice!!!!!
I will gladly help you but please people, do remember there is a search function on this board...after 100.000.000 posts on Firkraag/Kangaxx/Golems/Mindflayers/Beholders it does tend to get a bit boring. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
Anyway, sorry to pour this ramble out on your
poor newbie head...I should have started like (let me start over ok?)
Hi Drewhead! Welcome to the Forum and I hope we'll be able to help you!
Some good strategies for fighting a mindflayer: Cast the 5th level Priest spell Chaotic Commands to protect from psionic blast. Have characters with low intelligence drink Potions of Intelligence: the mindflayers can kill a creature with INT 6 in something like 2 blows!!! Summon a load of skeletons (can be done both by priest or mage spell), as the skeletons have no brain to be slurped up by the mindflayer http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif Have some fighters stand right behind the skeletons (or wizard eye, 4th level mage) to smash the annoying SOB to bits and pieces! Hope this helps, good luck!!! (BTW a very cheap tactic if you arein a room which can be closed off by a door: use a wand of cloudkill on the mindflayer, run from the room and close the door behind you!!!)

Ulitharids are harder to kill. They have more HD and can cast spells...although I think that they might only be Cleric spells? Not sure about that. They usualls cast healing spells on themselves once my Inquisitor lays into them. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...es/biggrin.gif
