Ok. In the bottom half of the map, on the right, is an area that you can't get into. Is that where the pillar with the treasure is? And do you need the first half of the journal to access it? I have never, in any game played or half-played, been able to find the first half. I have looked in 'search' and seen it is part of the Ranger quest, but people have found the first half who do not seem to be playing Rangers - and if you can't get the goods unles you are a Ranger, what IS THE POINT of having these frustrating bits of quests lying around? GRRRRrrrr! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...les/1zhelp.gif

One of the journal parts is in the Shadow Dungeon and can be found by anyone. The other part can only be found by Rangers. It is given to your character by the bloke destroying the forest and looking for the treasure who will only be on the map partway through the ranger stronghold quests. But don't get too worried about it - it is a few bits of mithril which the bloke takes off you anyway - you haven't missed a major magic item or anything.

I would say that it is worth playing through as a Ranger - at the completion of the stronghold quests (s)he does get a really great item. And if you like trees there is a sense of satisfaction in completing the quests.
