When I try do connect it tells me that my cache size is to small (which really hurt my manly pride) and that I could change it useing the the configuration utility, where is this wonderous device?

The configure option is available directly below the play option upon booting the game up. I don't know the standard cache size (I've tinkered with it) but it's set at 500 atm.

Be warned if your hard drive isn't very big, and you have windows and bg2 on it, don't set the cache to be too big as the cache and windows swap file compete for space and cause crashes.

I would recomend a cache size of no less than 500mb if you can accomadate that, I personaly use a 1GB cacheand all works very nicely.
