Did this happen to others? In Temple Ruins I found a piece of paper describing the location of a stash of goods in the southern area...in a rocck pile in a grove of trees...I couldn't find a thing...could you?

I think you need to be a Ranger to find it.

What about a Ranger in a multi-player game, but not the lead player. Could he/she find it?

Its part of the ranger stronghold quest so if you aren't a ranger you can't get it I'm afraid.
