how do you acheive this effect, when item editing. is it one of those EFF file effects?

I don't know squat about editing, but you may want to take a look at the weapons Daystar (double damage vs. undead) and Carsomyr (I *believe* double damage vs. CE opponents).

Or maybe I should just shut-up, huh?

yeah i know daystar has an effect called "use EFF file #xxx" and i'm thinking that is where it comes from but i'm not sure what all that does.
