Er.... I killed Firkraag before the quest of returning the Carsomyr... can I gain the stronghold yet? (I did the quest of protecting the girl in the docks)

The Paladin Stronghold is slightly different from the others. All he gains is a place to rest in the Order instead of an actual base. You can continue the Stronghold quests, but they won't bother to ask you for the last one.

You're hosed. If you are a Paladin and kill Firkraag before the Order of the Radiant asks you to, you'll be unable to complete the Stronghold quest. Well...you may complete it, but I don't think that you'll get the XPs that you would otherwise.

Plus, the "stronghold" is bogus. There's no place in that Temple that you can rest. It is allegedly a bug in the game.
