After playing BG2 for about 20 mins the game slows down incredibly to the point where every move of a character takes about 2-3 secs. The only way to rectify that is to save, quit and then restart the game. Has this happened to anyone? I have a fast machine and a good video card so I don't think that is the problem...any help anyone?

Have you downloaded and installed the patch?? That will help, also make sure there is nothing else running.

Others have had similar problems. From my understainding it has to do with memory allocation and that the game does not free up the memory once it is no longer needed.

When it happens to me, I do the same -- quit and reboot.

In specific games I have found that the slowdown is related to certain spell effects like confusion and such and that resting brings everything back to speed, but this may just be a coincidence.

Also, when I helped install BG2 on a friend's machine, I noticed that leaving the processor speed at average worked better than configuring the processor speed as fast. You also might want to disable the game's 3-D effects and check the installation's readme.txt file for other suggestions regarding certain types of video and sound cards.

Hi Gray Mage : I already installed the patch and tried it...still same problem. Tried uninstalling and installing it with the full installation option. Same problem. Thanks anyways.

Father Bronze : Thanks for the info. I'll try setting the speed down and I hope that works.

Are you guys running BG at 3am when you've been running memory intensive applications for the past 24 hours non-stop? Come on be honest...
