A Cavalier, should be able to wear the amulet of power..i've done this before (Although not with TOB installed); however this time around they don't seem to mesh.
I~ uninstalled tob and bg2, installed bg2 alone (trying to recreate the previous scenario here) and yet still it didn't work :X Who's got the answer? ;_; |
This is a bug, as defined by Baldurdash (fairly reliable site - they've discovered bugs that the game developers often agree with) and you can download a fix for the item here.
It's up to you whether you install this or not, but I've used various bug fixes from this site previously and never had any problems with them. Additionally, it seems that this bug has been confirmed as an item definition error by official sources though I don't believe it's made it into any of the patches. |
The last official Bioware patch on the game has probably appeared, so if you want to solve this problem (and a bunch of others), do visit that Baldurdash site. The owner has meticulously covered a whole range of problems which Bioware hasn't addressed. I've never had a problem with anything produced on his site.

i thought caviliers counted as a fighter class (also the ranger)

No. If you look at the character creation process, you'll notice that Rangers and Paladins are separate choices with their own kits. Fighters, Rangers and Paladins are all classified as warriors, but they are considered separate.
