Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2

I brought it recently and have to say that it is complete and utter crap. Its like a poor (and i do mean poor) version of Diablo and barely resembles AD&D.

Has anyone bothered to play / beat this?

PS. Arcane Archer is a cool kit, someone who can imbue minor magic into their arrows. It is the only thing about the game i do like!

Well I was thinking of getting a PS2 just for this game alone...
Is it really that bad?

oh come on, you didnt expect a console game to have DEPTH did you? Fair play, consoles are all well and good (Im a big fan of the PS2) but for awesome, deep, moving RPGs such as BGII and PT, come on home to the humble old PC, cos you aint gonna find 'em anywhere else, bub.

I have, but I dont agree with you, it's a great looking and entertaining game. But the fact that it's just Diablo with better graphics and D&D characters in it is a let down. The fact that you can finish it in eight hours isn't a strong point for it either (BTW you should really put this topic in general discussions you'll get more replies there.

Yeah you are right, i mean like i love playing console games too. But all i have done in the first 3 hours is hack and slash millions upon millions of undead / kobolds and such.

It just got imcredibly repetitive, in fact in the first 5 levels all you can fight are,
rats,
spiders,
bugbears,
kobolds,
zombies / skellybone things.

Was minorly upset, especially as the game cost £45

I'll agree it hasen't got that much depth, but it's better than average. I love the water effects, ice caves and the dragon though!!

(Can't wait for FFX to come out over here though [I know that has nothing to do with it!])

8 hours? what!? thats nothing!. so that would be why my friend is claiming that bg games are easy and fast to complete!.

ok, Having taken the game back and recuperating my £45 for the game and arguing with the fool, who thought the console game was loads better than SOA / TOB (Put him severely in his place), i wisely invested it in Soul Reaver 2.

Now havent played the game much, but WOW what a character (Vampire /Demon style with the wraith blade on his arm). Now that would be cool in BG2,

Aaahhhh Dreams

Never really thought much of Soul Reaver 2. It was a very.. purposeless game with fantastic graphics. There arent any cool moves so all your fights are the same, which you end by impaling or burning your victims, and the save system is extremely annoying.

Oh yeah and melancholic_goat, console games DO have depth. The Final Fantasy series is an example of fantastic story-telling. I've got a PS2 and I cant say I'm regretting it one bit.

Well I can say that I am regretting getting a PS1 instead of a PS2 4 christmas :(
