any suggestions on when i should duel class a lvl 13 sword kensai, and to what? (cleric, thief, mage)

well I never duel classed my kensai but I have heard a kensai\mage is supposed to be good.
come to think of it though a kensai\theif sounds really good. you could kick ass and still dissarm traps.

Duel means to fight, while dual means two.

It's just a typo LordEd. If you're already level 13 it's probably not worth dualling because you won't max out in levels in your second class. Ideally kensai should be dualled around Level 9 for mage, possibly level 10 for thief.

And it's pointless dualling a sword kensai to a cleric. you won't be able to use your sword!

Actually I need to check that.

Pretty sure of that Memnoch. A cleric under no cicumstances can use a sword, either dual or multi.

It would be like dualing an archer with profs in bows to a cleric !!

Which brings me to my grievances. Who in the hell says I can't wield a longsword and worship Pelor? Why not? What has Pelor got against longswords? In fact, I think that there are some gods that favor the longsword. What kind of hogwash is this?!?!? Freaking clubs and spears...I mean, since when have clerics NOT been able to wield a mace?! That's unheard of! To hell with 2nd Edition rules!

cheers.

Never heard of Pelor, but you're right, there are certain temples that allow their clerics use of differing weapons. For example, clerics of Cyric can use shortswords, clerics of Loviatar can use whips (heh) and clerics of Tempus can specialise in a weapon of their choice.

I guess it all comes down to interpretation. I think that if you are a fighter/cleric that you should be able to use your weapons. I mean, basically, you are something akin to a Paladin, just self created. When doing a cleric's work, you should be limited as to what you can do, but if you are doing the work of the fighter, then it seems fair that you should be able to use his tools. Why else would you be dual classed?

You know what system I kinda like, it's the one from Torment. I don't agree that you have to have a trainer to switch classes though, but basically, what it does is let you advance in whatever class you declare as 'current'. You started off as a fighter class, but could become a thief and/or a mage as well. I kept Annah (tiefling - thief) in the party so that I could become a thief whenever I needed to, and I also kept Dakkon (Fighter/MU) so I could switch to either a fighter or a mage. The game allowed me to progress in each level independently as long as I kept to the limitations of the class I had 'selected'. The only thing that really sucked about Torment was that the main character could not become a cleric. They did have a succubus as a cleric though, so you could have access to their spells, but really, I wanted it all. LOL

The reason that I liked this, was because it reminded me of the old deity & demigods book. They had characters in there declared as 'hero' that had more than one class. Why, if we are 'heroes' can we not have some of the same benefits? I mean, there should be some kind of a goal that we should be able to set and meet. I believe the 3rd edition has allowed an interpretation of this, but I am not overtly sure just yet. It seems that 3rd edition is getting away from kits and going back to general use. They do seem to be allowing kits to be 'built' from non-specialization points. Not saying that a game would allow us to actually progress to becoming a demi-god or something, but it would be cool if we could become true "heroes".
