Is there any CRPG's like the BG series in the pipeline aside from NWN?

Jerhal 01-09-2002 01:46 AM

None that I'm aware of. Interplay can't make anymore D&D products I think the D&D license is now owned by Infogrames? That might be wrong, but the travisty that is POR2 is a bad sign of where the D&D games are headed. Anyway none are reported and once they are it usually takes a year or two to come out. Tho if NWN is ever released, and works the way they say it will there will be a plethora of mods to go through once people start making their own. I have high hopes for this game, we'll see. Morrowind is the only other RPG I'm waiting for this year. Oh and the Starwars one Bioware is doing, Knights of the Old Republic. *drool*

Played Planescape: Torment? If not, go out right now and get it. It is, IMHO, better than BG I or II or Icewind Dale. (If you haven't seen Icewind Dale pick it up while you're out too.) Its made by the same folks who make BG I & II.

Aside from that, I've heard lots of good things about Vampire: the Redemption. Haven't personally played it yet myself, though.

For oldies-but-goodies, check out Ultima 4 through 7, or any of the gold box SSI AD&D games (Curse of the Azure Bonds, Dark Queen of Krynn are the best ones). Also Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 are pretty good. Keep in mind these are light on the graphics and sound, but great on storyline and plot development.

Other than those, there really ain't much out there that is of the same caliber as the Black Isle stuff. The guy above is right though, once Neverwinter Nights comes out, we'll all get our next fix.

(Hope I didn't just tell you a bunch of stuff you already knew :\ )

Since I'm such a nitpicker, just a correction here - Black Isle developed Torment and Icewind Dale, BIOware made Baldur's gate 1 and 2. But, yes, I agree PST is a great game and anyone who likes the Infinity Engine games should pick it up post-haste.

Vampire aint so good game... well multiplayer maybe but singleplayer is just killing and killing and running around
but.. maybe someone likes it.. i didnt..

I heard the first one (Vampire:the Masquerade) was weak, but that the second one (Vampire:the Redemption) was pretty good. I watched a friend play it a bit and it seemed to have some plot to it...

*shrugs* I dunno. Well, the other games I mentioned above I have played and they are all great.

Who knows for sure? The D20 is open source after all, but once you get lawyers invovled anything can happen. NWN is 3rd edition which is not open source I believe. If Bioware doesn't publish their own titles from now on then they could go to Infogrames for a publisher and there would'nt be any problems with licensing at least in the future. There are no other D&D products in development that we have been told about, and these products usually get a year or two of 'hype' before being released. POR had a good two years of hype before it came out, and NWN has been on our minds for a long time as well. If things go well for Bioware with LucasArts and the Starwars license they may focus more on that kind of RPG for a bit. Its all speculation and anything can happen with the lawsuits about. Bioware and Interplay are tight lipped and will be until it is settled.

Tid bit on biowares forum about the suits.

Gamespot presents Bioware's press release on lawsuit with Interplay.

You can find information about Morrowind here. And info on Kights of the Old Republic here. I hope Ironworks makes a forum for Morrowind when it comes out.

Interplay sells the old goldbox games, you can get pretty much all of them except the dragonlance ones for ten us dollars. I'm not sure about overseas shipping you might find a reseller in the UK with it. Here is the link.

There have been rumors of an Icewind Dale 2. But that's all they are ... rumors. I saw these rumors on a Black Isle board a month or 2 ago, if I remember correctly. However, given the current situation, none of the BIS people could comment in any way on the matter.

I sure hope that they (Interplay and Bioware) settle their problem, because I'd sure love to see an IWD2.
