I am in chapter 5 and I am tryig to kill Irenicus. Any ideas on how to do this????

Actually you cannot kill him at this stage of the game: all you can do is get him 'near death'. This isn't that hard: just make sure you go to the other prisoners of Spellhold first and ask them to help you fight Jon. There are some pretty powerful wizards in this group: one can even cast
Time Stop. Afew magic missiles and some good fighters will do the rest. After he's gone you can concentrate on the other enemies
