Although I haven't played this through (I play mostly good parties and Edwin doesn't fit being Lawful Evil), you might try casting remove curse on Edwin and then removing the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity from him. That should work. If he doesn't change back after that, try a Restoration after the Girdle is removed. Still no good?, then cast Polymorph Other and let Boo have him (it's been a while and you know how horny Minature Giant Space Hamsters can get!)

It's time-related. The condition will go away after a certain event occurs. 'Till then, all you can do is deal with it.
