and am a newbie to BG2 too, i wish we'll have some good time here

actaully i've a question when i just started the game... when i put on an armor, why do the number next to me (i guess it's the defense rate) DECREASE? i suppose when i put on plate, the def should be higher... would someone please tell me why?

Welcome to the board.
First of all I would suggest that you read the game manual,
there are explainations of rules.
The answer of your question is on page 39.

Welcome to the board. That number next to you is your Armor Class. The lower your AC the better (funny, I know). You want to get it as low as you can.
