I have spoken to the ore merchant - the guy at the copper cornet but the door to neb's home is locked and i can't gain entrance. Any ideas.(and oh yes I have tried to pick the lock)

It's pickable. Maybe you tried to pick it with Nalia. Use a knock spell on it.

There is a merchant right next to Neb's house. If you are having trouble picking the lock, you can buy a potion of master thievery from her. With that, any of your thieves should be able to pick the lock no sweat...
