I'm in Chapter 3 know, and have a hell lot of spare time for my characters, so, I was looking into this romance thingy, bit I'm not sure how it works. Anyone care to explain?

yeah, it should just kick in, and the girl (or whatever) will start idle chat with you, and after a while of right choices, will become more, gradually, by her bringing up the dialog, and you responding to your desire.
