You lose 2 rep points every time you turn into the Slayer. If you turn into it when your rep is 1, you die. If you stay in Slayer form too long, you die. It's not faultless.

You'll know when you can. It becomes pretty obvious. It's not avoidable, so if you can't do it, you're not up to the part in the plot where it becomes available.

What Armisael is saying is that Beetle (in his excitement at his hideous transfiguration) inadvertently revealed a pretty major spoiler and probably should have marked his post as such so people who haven't gotten to that particular plot twist don't accidentally find out. But because so many people have beaten the game at least once no-one bothers to complain about spoilers anymore, at least on this board (on others they are REALLY stringent about it - try releasing a spoiler in the BGDungeon forum...)
