Well, now I am through BG2, I´d say: yes.

BG2:
+ High resolution graphics
+ lots of quests
+ Dragons look cool
- OpenGL is no real difference to Software Acc
- XP cap
- No tomes but instead stats of main char get drained over the game
- Char kits are almost useless, as only 2-4 are really
powerful (warrior/wizard, monk, paladin...)

Torment:
+ Very cool and "stronger" story/storyline
+ Very cool NPCs (Morte, Nodrom...)
+ Very interesting world/setting
+ Better sound/music(main theme still unmatched)
+ Powerups to main char (hp, stats...)
- Only 640*480

I´d say this is a victory of quality over quantity.
I found some things about BG2 very disgusting, for example
that without hints from the net you may not come across very
powerful/important items (Mirror Robe!), and that your main
characters stats get drained at least 2* through the game.
Also, those tons of quests get a little useless sooner or later
because of the xp cap, its not SO funny to just level your NPCs.
And that mages may not memorize level 9 spells, oh dear I
mean, BG2 is primary a single player game, so there is no need
for "balance", right?

Just my humble opinion, I am curious about your thoughts.

Kind regards, Mabelrode

I can honestly say I preferred BG2. I'm happy with the XP cap; in fact, I wish it was harder to level up in BG2 so you could play through again with the same character. Long story short, BG2 is more AD&D-esque, and I like AD&D.

No doubt with an interesting storyline, I still choose BG2 due to the same reason as Armisael.

I forgot one feature of Torment, that is you can speak to your party´s
members almost every time, and often get new dialogs/information, which
in BG2 you can´t. BG2 NPCs often (99%) have nothing to say or say things
just randomly.

Concerning AD&D I must say that I don´t care about the character development
/combat mechanisms as long these mechanism don´t suck and I get a nice story
But I must also say I am no big fan of AD&D, so probably BG2 is really the
better choice for fans of it.

I like Planescape better. One of the best ideas in the game is that your aligment changes depending your actions. Npc´s are much more intresting in palnescape and story is more to my liking. Bg2 IS exelent game too, no doubt about that.
