More info is needed on your party and your items. Any solo thief can handle him pretty well in the mid teens by setting numerous traps. If you have a low level cleric, cast magic resistance on him and he won't turn hostile.
Basically, with a full party of crappy NPC's you should wait until the mid teens level. If you have the right chars/items you can do it sooner. MIght try a search on this one, it has been discussed ad nauseum. |
Spoilers perhaps
. . . . . . . . . . . Easier is to tell what level you are. I have taken him on with chars (party) where levels are from 7 to 12. 2 days ago did smack him with my paladin char and his party, levels were from 8 to 12. Some take him on maybe even earlier, some later. Main things really is whether you have the spells to resist it's attacks of fire, lower it's resistances and such. Nothing really too high level of spells is needed, so if someone tells you about Time Stop and Abi-Dalzims and such then just ignore it, it's a waste, can be done with spells and gear of much lower lvl. 2-3 tank types are good, summons too as a cannon fodder, spread the party around the Kraggie. And so on :D Tell your level and the level of your party members and then it's much easier to say. |
me Paladin level 10
Minsc 10 Jaheira 9 fighter/12 druid Yoshimo 12(or 13) Jan Janssen (level 10 thief 12 illusionist (or reversed)) |
that should work well, just have Jan and Yoshimo cast traps all over the damn place. have Jan cast some monsters of some kind. have jaheira do this too. then, have your paladin, and minsc beef up, and go whack the hell out of him. that should to it for you. one of the first things i bought was Vhailors helm. that with the talking sword.
at level 12, after taking on mencar pebblecrusher and his crew, i had full plate armor, the talking sword, and vhailors helm, ring of protection+2, amulet of power, ring of earth control?, but i had a great ac. i was soloing though, so it was all given to my one character, and was at level 11 or 12 or something from all of the quests that i did. |
Spoiler
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . There is a helm and shield which help protect against dragon fear and provide protection against fire that can be found in the areas leading up to Firkraag. Use them! Also, casting "Lower Magic Resistance" against Firkraag at the beginning of the fight will help your spells get through. His MR is fairly high initially. |

Also, casting "Lower Magic Resistance.

Or ofcourse u can use reverse psycology- cast magic resistance. If the MR of the target creature is higher than that which the priest would convey, this spell will actually lower the MR to the set value. This gives MR of something like 2% per caster level, to a maximum of 4% at level 20. And due to a nice little bug, which apparently goes if u have TOB, this being a defensive spell, will not turn a neutral character hostile. So cast magic resistance at as low a level as u can, and then a few Lower Resistances at as high a level as u can... this will soon take Firkraags MR down to 0... Or u can just use MR, then harm, althuogh this has never worked for me- i never hit him, AND he turns hostile, without having any damage done to him. |
That's sneaky ... i like it ...
Did that little bug get fixed in the TOB patch? |
Harm only works on hostile targets IIRC.
