Hi... well I'm new here, I recently came across a Wizardry 8 review on gamespot and thought it looked great, and have been trying to get a copy. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell the game is no longer in distribution.

I tried searching E-bay, there were a few copies but none for sale in Australia (where I live) and those that would ship oversees asked for an outrageous shipping charge.

So my question..... how can I go about getting a version of this game?
I post alot on a System Shock forum as well, and I know there are a few sites that specialise in selling old games like this that have been sitting around in surplus for a while but regular shops are unwilling to sell. Does anybody know a site that stocks this game?

thanks alot...

Try looking for some game magazines. In Germany, within the last half year Wiz8 appeared at least four times in game mags.

I think EB (electronics botique or something like that) still sells it.

Teah Ziggurat, but as hayaku says, you often get slugged something aweful for shipping to Oz. Silpion has made one suggestion, if you know someone in Germany, they have had a number of recent game-mags with a full(?) version of Wiz8 included, someone could probably list names of magazines and their date of issue.

It's unlikely you'll find new copies in shop shelves, but try asking the counter-staff, they might have stock not out on the display.

If all else fails, there is an Australia Ebay, have you tried there?

Hope this helps, for anyone into "old school" RPG, you got to have this game!

Edit: There is a playable demo available (about 142Mb in size to download, links available off my web site).

Amazon US doesn't ship software outside the U.S.

It could be your best bet is to find some Oz-based gamer sites with forums, and look around there (or ask there) for anyone who may be willing to sell their own copy of the game.

Thanks alot for the help so far.... but yeah, both sites posted DO NOT ship to Australia.

I think the main problem is that the kind of people who would buy Wizardry 8 aren't the kind of people who would sell it, rather they would just keep it in their collection indefinitely, pray they might pull it out and play it again some time in the future... not wanting to risk forfieting this for the meager $5 they might get for it online.

I think the same can be said for the majority of (serious) RPG players come to think of it... I guess its a matter of appreciating a game for its deeper elements than refusing to play it anymore due its "dated graphics".

Couple this with the fact that W8 was never hugely popular in the mainstream to begin with.... I don't exactly hold huge hopes of finding a copy 2nd hand.

Hmm, german ebay lists 3 sellers for Wizardry 8 right now, at least 1 of which is willing to ship worldwide, maybe you should try there.

Of course, all those auctions are in German, which might be difficult to read unless you know the language ;) However, some of them do say the game is in English (that much I could make out).

I bopped over to ebay New Zealand and searched. Oddly, all the returns were for auctions outside of NZ. There are some UK sellers with the game.

Finally, don't give up hope. Not everyone likes the Wizardry style, and you may yet find someone with the game who is willing to sell it to you. The only way to find out is to try. So check out some AU game forums; you could get lucky.
