I've seen a few postings suggesting that priests are the least useful spellcaster, if not least useful class, in the game.

One of the priest's best powers, perhaps, is the pray option, useable in combat. I have, for my last few priests, consistently attempted to use prayer as much as possible so as to catalogue the various things it can do.

After a few spoiler-proof blank lines below, I've listed the ones I have come up with. If anyone can point to a definitive list of possible results, or can add some I haven't seen, please let me know.

1) Nothing Happens
2) Think of it as a learning experience (? how much exp. gain, if any?)
3) Pennies from heaven (+100 GP)
4) Blessing of the gods is upon you (long lasting bless spell)
5) Guardian Angel on a random character
6) Blessing of the gods is upon you (soul shield and element shield)
7) Blessing of the gods is upon you (armorplate, enchanted blade, missile shield and magic screen -- which all last after combat)
8) magic missile targeting one enemy
9) foes cower in fear before the gods (terror and magic missile?)
10) rest all on the party
11) heal (heavy wounds?) on the praying character

If you are really up rapax creek without a paddle you should be able to get resurrections. or I could be remembering some other game. Try testing it when you get the ominous combat music and half the party is dead.

oh yeah, supposedly it's more effective the less you use it.

I seem to remember followind additional effects:
cold attack at all enemies
fire attack at all enemies
curing (status effects) at one character
