Do your Priet and Mage have to do any apprentice levels first?

No Thief? A lizard thief is awesome. I had a lizzy Sam that turnned out great by the time he was level 14.

The ranger had a -5. the rest had no profesion
liabillity.

after I started I realized I had no lock pickers.
my fighter will have a str of 100 by level 8.
he will just have to bust the locks off.

A high level knock-knock spell, in combination with knock picks, and the poseurs cap, should be enough even for ascension peak. IIRC Strength 100 gives you still 0% bash chance there, but with ankhs of Might, you'll have a chance.

Traps situation might be a problem though, no? Especially that one in the Rift... Or will knock knock spell clear that one?

THE trap in the rift? There are three nasty ones in the sanctum. I even managed to set them off with a rogue with 150+ skill (thanks to divine trap).

A level 7 knock-knock sometimes opens even high level chests without setting them off (i found out when i wanted to cast devine trap, but the wrong character was active, and i clicked too fast).

At places with several dangerous traps (rift, away camp), i drop all potions and scrolls before trying to disarm. In addition, i spend most of my money on light weighted items at Ferro. So i'm pretty immune to the most dangerous traps (in ironman mode). Well, the trap at the kings chest just reduced my money from 40000 to 2000 (with a rogue with a skill of 145), but thats no big deal.

I usually find the one in the entryway to the sanctum to be the worst of them all, but it's true that the ones on those chests aren't very nice either! It's sounding to me like they get much worse on expert too! That's like a different game altogether... Maybe I'll try it when I decide I'm officially not a newbie anymore!
