Some merchants only bring out the better stuff when you are at a high enough level. I know this happens with Ferro and have seen it with Antone and others. Is there a list of what level is required to get certain items? I am in Arnika with everyone at lev 11 but the bishop, who is 10. I cannot seem to get Soul Shield from Braffit even after multiple reloads. (I saved before I talked to him so his inventory is changing with each reload.) He is eligible for it. I think Braffit also sells Remove Curse when you are higher lev. I haven't seen a "level breakpoint" list for objects sold by each merchant. Does one exist?

Not to my knowledge. I've only noticed level specific content with some of the more notable vendors, (Ferro, Antone, etc)

Hi Ziggurat.
I never bought Soul Shield from Braffit. I'd learned other spells in my games when I reached the necessary level, if I had found a vendor who sells this book. Are you really sure Braffit sells it ? Greetings |
Braffit sells Soul Shield. Braffit does not have a level sensor. Merchants have three eight-hour shifts; two of which they acquire stuff and one of which they get rid of some. The acquire cycles have different lists. If something you want is not present in this cycle, rest to check the next cycle. (saving before kissing again!) Kunar, Crock, and Ferro are the only ones with level sensors on their Spellbooks: Kunar @8, Crock @11, and Ferro @15.
EDIT: oh, and it's party average level, rounding down. [ 11-29-2004, 07:15 AM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |
I can't remember buying Soul Shield from Braffit. It's a level 4 spell, and his normal books are level 1-3. Maybe he can sell it, but he very rarely has it?
Scatter, you say that Ferro has a trigger at level 15. I assume it's for his books. But in my experience, he never had The Mauler before i was level 17 (at least not in my last dozens of games). |
I didn't know Braffit had Soul Shield. I know he's had Banish and Remove Curse for sale in the past when your level is high enough.
I always get Soul Shield from Crock anyway. As for Banish you can get a freebie from the Swamp as you know. |
Braffit DEFINITELY has a level sensor on which spellbooks he will load, regardless of how many times you reload and talk to him. (Speaking as someone who uses that tactic extensively on vendors.) He has spellbooks of levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 (Banish only I think). Each level is "unlocked" from him when the character/party reaches a certain level.
All other spellbook vendors also seem to have a level sensor of some kind on their spellbook offerings, but I've noticed that spellbooks of the same level aren't always unlocked at the same time. (With Braffit it seems that they are, though.) I think Whipping Rocks from Kunar shows up at a higher character level than all his other level 3 spells. Ferro also has some level 5 spellbooks available earlier than others. I don't remember specifics for him, but I think Set Portal and Return to Portal show up at different levels. I think Psionic Blast was also one of Ferro's late-showing level 5 spellbooks. I would also be interested in such a list, and I don't know of any. Flamestryke's site has incredibly detailed information on monster and chest drops including level sensor information, but I can't find anything there about level sensors on vendor offerings. |

I tried many times with Braffit, and I know about the multiple sleep cycles for inventory renewal. But the sleep cycles aren't necessary if you keep reloading from before talking to the merchant (which sets the goods for that few cycles) to get different offerings.
I guess we'll never know unless someone spends alot of time finding out. (Where did you get your lev sensors, Scatter? Experience?) Currently in Base Camp looking for Element Shield. Did get 3 others spells I could use for this party. Element Shield is not showing up at Kunar's, we are at lev 12 (except bish again, who is 11). May have hit a level sensor again. Will keep trying. Since I bought something am using sleep cycles to get new inventory. Then save before talking and reloading for new choices. There is something about sleeping too much that bugs me. I guess some games have rewarded quicker solutions so I don't want to get into the habit of resting more than minimum. |
uh, hah, you're right, i went in to test Braffit after i lied in here. I've just never been to Arnika younger than L8, at which he has everything i need. (i go through the game "backwards" directest way to getting Das' Diamond Eyes)...ooops, sorry.
HOWEVER i've definately bought EVERYTHING Ferro sells @ L15, as that's one of my tactics in the game--always be at Ferro by L15 for equipment. EDIT i know that link, Wolfie, but it has no level info. [ 11-29-2004, 07:20 PM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |
