(Got bumped out the last time I tried to send this, hope I don't see 3 versions appear!)

These remarks are for those brave souls trying small parties.

Trying a new trio of:

Gnome samurai F Russian
Faerie rogue M Italian
Hobbit valkyrie F Norse

Doing reasonably well so far, lev 5, defeated Gregor, got a venom crab shell. Is this party strong enough to go all the way? Should I switch the rogue to ninja for that special war doodad?

I think this one is interesting, has anyone else had some strange trios?

A Russian, an Italian and a Norse walk in to a bar.

"Say, aren't you fellows working for the T'rang?"

Enemy: 31 rats and seekers

I thought I could rest and get rid of some, killed many (maybe 5 rats and 8 seekers). We are at level six and going to the bat room, so to speak, so we can finish off the Monastery. Damned if these critters aren't persistent even after resting in a far off place. We have no stamina spells, used up one potion. The party of 3 will get thru this but seems weird to me that you can't rest to get new enemies, they just accumulate. Been there before? I guess we are not far enough away for the new critter regen criterion. I mean, so they will go away. Guess we have to lure them out and pick 'em off as best we can. - Zig -

Monsters are based on level. If you stay long enough (and rest enough), nastier critters will appear eventually. I also found that the lower monastery was better for regening opponents than the upper part. Parties would rest in one of the cell rooms, in a corner away from the door window. That worked well for me.

After awhile though, it got to be rather boring.

Fixed encounters won't go away--if you haven't killed the original batch, they persist. Three places in Upper that respawn are the library (no-magic), assistant room (lightning rod chest), and garden (behind Phoony statue). L6 is high enough to spawn the occasional Pestilent Rat, so i usually stay L5 in the Monastery.
Better to sell all the goodies you can to buy more potions from Burz than to rest for long enough to respawn (usu 24 hrs). And if you're resting only for stamina, it should only take a couple seconds.
One tactic i like if i'm really overwhelmed is to drag the fights to the ramp and just duck out to Lower when Stamina/HP get low. If you can get them to follow without engaging, you lose no stamina (or HP) just getting there, and they can't follow accross the Zone line.

They are all in the library. The ramp trick didn't work, they see me too quickly. Hearing both of you, I think I will head down to Lower Mon and rest there. That can erase the monsters in the next quadrant. Of course, new ones appear. I could also leave the Mon but I really want that Hunter's Cape. I stay at lev 6 when leaving Mon to avoid some of the nastier critters on Arnika Rd. At lev 6 you also avoid the pestilent rats.

Edit: got thru them all. Too many rats, took almost an hour to get them all. Such is life and good games. Now in Arnika. This is not a strong party but we are getting beter. I really need to pump up the magic, tho. Ciao
