Is there anything out there for us hard-core Might & Magic / Wizadry players? I have about a week of oppertunity to get something new from the States, but haven't seen anything that fits.

There have been discussions of other games here, but mostly from other games. I have been very saddened by the fact that M&M doesn't run on my new XP.

The one thing that is really important is the way the screen looks. This may seem stupid, but it's what kept me out of BGII. Everything was almost too small to see on the screen (I do have a 17 inch - just not such good eye-sight) Oh, well

Thanx

Have you considered Gothic? Graphically like Wiz8 (in that's it's 3D world you walkabout in with 3D monsters, open chests), but only single-character, not party. I enjoyed it, found the storyline engaging, and once my character started getting stronger (the start can be a bit hard, like Wiz8 in that aspect too), was great. Sadly the Gothic series (there's been three and add-ons) was never distributed in the Asia-Pac area, so like yourself I had to buy (only got Gothic I) through a friend in the States (won't buy over the Internet).

There is a demo available (at least for Gothic I that I know of), it's about 270Mb so if you have access to fast download, get it and have a look.

If you like wizardry you might be quite disappointed by gothic - graphic is much better, and the game has a nice atmosphere, but it's not very complex. Not at all. You can't even create a character before you begin (not even give him a name), every time you start with the same...
Maybe try Wiz7? Or even the ones before, though i didn't try them myself yet.

I heard PLanescape Torment is an excellent RPG if you can find it. But the view is more like Diablo than first person.

Thanks for all the advice all. Things didn't work out, so I'll just have to keep playing Wiz 8.

Isn't that too bad.

Started a new party of 4. First time to do this. Planning to dual but still not sure how this will work out

Again Thanks

there's a game called Devil Whiskey that plays a LOT like the M+M & Wizardry games. you can even download a demo which will allow you to build up your characters to level 12 :

www.devilwhiskey.com

as far as getting M+M to run on XP, which one are you trying to get to work? if it's M+M VI, then i use to have all sorts of problems with that one , but i have finally got it to work now on XP so i might be able to help you with that.

gothic 2 and planescape torment are two of my all time favorites.

There is also dungeon lords coming out in q1 2005, which is by the author of wizardry 7.

Got M&M VI and VII running on XP - but lost sounds on Wiz 8. I have a suspicion there might be a connection. Oh, well - rather play Wiz ;)
