Hmm, sometime this week I started losing some Wiz 8 sound effects. I still hear some (such as walking, talking, using gadgets, music, area sounds) but no spell effects or lock/tumblers, etc. I don't miss the terror spell and some others but it is a bit weird. Has this happened to anyone else?

I had a similar prob when I had less RAM and I either used the map or changed areas too much. But this one doesn't go away on a reboot like the previous problem did. The 256 Meg RAM is 80% free and seems OK as I write this.

Maybe it's just a bit worn out and needs to be reinstalled?

Maybe you hit a key on the keybord by accident. Go into your settings and see if anything is off.

I encountered a similar problem after using that gas-door in Lower Marten's Bluff to try to raise Iron Will (clicking it over and over eventually made a bunch of sound effects disappear, and they wouldn't come back on restart so I had to RELOAD to a point before I messed with the door).

On a related note, I'd kill to get rid of the "chime" that it makes in combat to signify the start of a new combat round.

Gas-Door.

I don't recall anything like that. Or do you mean the electrifying door that shocks you without the T'rang arm?

The door that you need to enter the passcode (with the, I think, Mindblast Rod beyond it). If you don't enter a code and try to open the door it sprays gas that may paralyze a random character in your party.

I think a reload is in order. I will have to move the saved games elsewhere...that's life.

Reinstalled, no spell sounds. (There are atmospheric effects, not the same thing as a Tsunami spell). But I have still the footsteps, voices, and some music. Reinstalled from my second Wiz 8. I actually bought 2 of this game, the reason was I don't want to lose this game. And the CDROM was acting up. Whatever. So...sound is not the thing. I guess my question is still: has anyone lost spell sounds so far? OK, give me a fix. There was no need to move game files (as far as I know, which I did just in case) unless you have to manually delete everything. Maybe I have to delete everything? The sound is not that important as far as spell sounds go. The game is still great. Just asking for bad dice...er, advice.

Just lost my sounds too. No reason, and as you say, some of them do work - just the spell sounds (and dragon breath). Oh, well

It's either a corruption of a file or three, or some other entity has pre-empted the sounds. I tend to think it's another application since I have been fighting spam and spyware tooth-and-talon this year (never had a problem before, I think the enemies on the Net have gotten more insidious).
