Hiya folks,
It's been a few weeks since I finished my last game. Do any of you have any recommendations for a new game out there? I like the team based style play that Wiz 8 had. But once you got the hang of this game, it's really easy, almost too easy. Is there anything out there that is a little more challenging? Thanks! |
Have you tried a game on expert difficulty ?
You can also reduce the number of party members ( no NPC) or even the party members 4,2 even a solo seems possible, but that's Scatters specialty :D You can play only mages, parties without magic users or hybrids only too. It depends on waht you like. [ 06-16-2004, 05:12 AM: Message edited by: Loudhy ] |
Just start a 4 character party (without RPCs) on expert in ironman mode. For a long time, every fight is quite ... interresting.

Did you try all three of the dungeons ?
Go to Rapax Castle, but do not become an initiate (I did that my first game - whew!), then go to the Rapax Camp (again, not as an initiate). Did you solve all of the quests that you could ? Do something to annoy the Patrols in Arnika - they are OK allies, but Arnika is a lot less fun when they are after you. But you're question is a good one - let me know if you ever find a game with this much flexibility, in a world as large (or larger) using teams that I can totally define ... I've been looking for awhile - many of the other RPG's are 'Linear', solve the quest and it's done... SirTech Software had another game (I have it at home someplace) that had a party - I never finished it - I'll look for it and post back if I can locate it. Note that some folk do the game 'Solo' (only one character) - and I'm intimidated by Gregor (the giant spider in the Monastary) with my 6 players when I'm starting a Game... |
Thanks for the input everyone. I tried expert once, it sucked at first then became much easier later on once my skills got quite high. I never did a solo, but have have done several 3 & 4 player teams. Also, for the last 4 or so games I only became a templar just before hitting AP, just so I could wipe out the Rapax away camp for yucks.

If you don't mind old graphics, try wizardry 7, is REALLY great, much bigger and really a LOT tougher. The so-called Wizardry Archives are available quite cheap, and contain everythin wizardry so far, includin wiz 7 (and wiz gold, which is just wiz 7 for windows or so)...

Yes, go play wiz7 and then tell us how quickly you beat it with no outside help. It'll be the longest game you've ever played.
Plus, you can import ur party afterward. |
Imports rule. You get up to (IIRC) 20 free Attribute points (a bit unfortunately distributed, but...), 20% of the Skill points you developed (except in magic, you get less there), and enough XP to take 5 levels immediately. And some pretty good equipment will import.
And you can run smaller parties through W-7 once you know the game fairly well, and try imported solo's, etc. back in W-8. |
I also agree with everyone about Wiz 7 as a great game. But it has a much higher frustration level. I wonder if that was a requirement of earlier RPGs. Same with text adventures including the first one and the Zork series. Wiz 8 seems to have a better balance, IMHO.
