OK. I hate mazes with a passion. My party is at level 13/14 now. I didn't feel quite ready for such areas as Bayjin, or the mountain wilderness, etc. yet. So...while I was waiting for Antonne to make some armor for my ninja faerie, I decided to wander back down to the cemetery, click the runes on the tombstones and walk into the dungeon via the mushroom circle. (I did keep a save game from just before entering the dungeon). I have wandered in every hallway I can find, picked the locks on every door I could find (all doors now just open for me), killed many monsters and walked through many mushroom circles that teleport me to other places in the maze. How in the heck do I get out of here??? I don't seem to be able to locate any new areas that I don't recognize. There has to be a way out somewhere. Any help out there??? Thanks.

Course there is.
Doing your own maps isnt too hard with those grid dungeons, but its easier downloading and printing them out from a website like flamestryke. IIRC in the cemetary dungeon there is a big X intersection, with long passageways going east west and north south. You go south, and take the first door on your right, then keep going west through a series of rooms and corridors. Youa re looking for the Blue tinged mushroom patch. A big battle before it so its hard to miss. |
Dont' worry - I must have wandered that dungeon for hours before getting out. You'll know without a doubt when you get to the right place - the exit mushrooms are located behind an 8 tumbler lock. As stated above, there is a nice battle to be fought before you can get out. If I remember correctly, looking at the map it's to the west, near middle of the map from a north-south perspective.

Using the "Automap" I just tried to go where I hadn't been... and checking Automap frequently showed that I was not going where I thought I should be going, 3 steps North could land me SouthEast 8 blocks or whatever.
The first time I tried that maze, I just gave up - went to Trynton, and tried again on the way back (no Knock Knock and my Bard wasn't ready for 8 tumblers). Another helpful tip is to write all over maps (eg; when "Enter ...." message, click on No, update exit map with location of the exit - then continue on, it's real handy later - also to avoid those weird 'Rising Blades' in several spots of the maze). |
Welcome to the board, Gadgeteer Tom!
A couple things you may want to know about those retro dungeons: 1) There are lots of teleport points. 2) Automap doesn't work right, apparently all retro dungeons map on top of each other so you won't be able to see what has been mapped and what hasn't. 3) The bug from #2 applies also to Xray vision with monsters. |
Maps, walkthroughs, everything you need can be found here (or at the mirror).
This page will give you an intro to what the Retro Dungeons are all about, then click on one of the maps to get step-by-step instructions for activating access to the dungeon (and walkthrough at the bottom of the page). This will easy your pain. |
