This is my third time playing through the game. The first two times I really didnt seek any online help I just learned on my own and tried different things. The third time I came here and started reading and learning new ways to get a really tough party. Well it worked because my party is extremely tough and very fun. I also tried a fairy ninja this time through because of all the great talk about the Cane of Corpus.
Well I got sidetracked in Rapax Rift among other places and never made my way over to the Don to get that stick of disaster. So when I finally made it a point to get on over there my party was about 17th level. I walked into the room and went over around behind the Don and clicked on the combat button. First wanted to summon elemental so that he could take the brunt of the punishment from those Thieves daggers but I couldnt summon. So I just decided to fire away at him. My mook fighter hit him once with the Light Sword and instant killed the Don. The fighter says " Well thats enough of that! Lets get moving!. Then my Samurai shoots the other italian mafia guy across the room with the Arbalast and instant kills him. Two shots two kills. And to make it ever sweeter there was the Cane of Corpus. I was so excited I had to tell someone. |
Sweet, indeed. That's usually a tough fight for most, though ordinarily players get there somewhat earlier than level 17 ;) Even so, two hits-two kills is an outstanding occurence.
I hope you remembered to pick up the Astral Doodad in all the excitement ;)
Nightowl2
|
Even though you cannot summon anything inside the hut (there is not enough room), you can actually simulate the effect (i.e., get a "target dummy" to draw at least some of the Don's attacks) quite easily. The Don has very high resistances to practically anything, but Milano does not. Simply Turncoat Milano; that's what I do. If you are lucky, the Don will even kill Milano for you while you are happily hacking away at the Don.
As for the Don himself, aside from beefing up your fighters (Haste, Superman, Enchant Blade etc.) and casting Armormelt there are not many tricks that will work consistently against him. Don't waste your time & spellpoints on offensive magic against him; they will be better spent on Heal All, Rest All and Cure Poison in this fight. My most memorable fight? There have been so many that it's hard to pick one. Fighting Nessie is always memorable. Here's one pretty good one from my current game: my party was fighting a horde of hostile Rapax in the castle (15 - 20 Rapax Samurais, Warmages, Warlocks etc.). I had already killed most of them, maybe 7 or 8 were still left, mostly Warlocks that had stayed behind and were still harassing my party with their spells. I decided to let my Bard use the Chaos Drone to break their ranks for a round or two so I could close in on them. Unfortunately, she FAILED, and the Chaos Drone backfired. RFS-81 (the only NPC in my party) went insane. "Ha-ha-ha." (By far the best Insanity quip in the whole game.) I ordered one bishop to cast Sane Mind on RFS-81. Unfortunately, RFS-81 had a better initiative, and the droid *critically* hit the bishop, killing him instantly. Next round, the other bishop would resurrect the dead bishop. That he did, but RFS-81 killed the bard, too, before he could be Sane-Minded. (At that stage, btw, the dead bishop was the only one who could cast Sane Mind.) Well, I won that combat, but at one stage it did not seem too certain. |
From seclist:
"RFS-81 (the only NPC in my party) went insane" Strange . He always was the "last hero" after all went insane and I thought, because he is an android and a monk with immunity to mental spells , he couldn't be affected. I had my best fights against the sorceress queen and their minions. Sometimes I won easily but there were fight that last very long. Also memorable is my fight with a party of 6 ( expert) against Brekek. He swallowed 5 of them within 6 rounds and killed the last with his tongue. I must say , I was stunned. i had the added benefit last play thru of Milano being waaaay outside on the ramps. methinks he was fooling around with some of the rattikin archeresses. he was almost over at the entrance, but it was great because he'd help me fight everything as i wandered around.

Maybe it was because Pandemonium is not a mental spell but an Air spell? I don't know, but I can assure you that in my current (Expert) game, RFS-81 has gone insane several times - in fact, more often than any other character, I would say. I've become distressingly familiar with the "Ha-ha-ha-ha." sound, yet it *still* never fails to amuse me. The "Speech system not -ZZZZt- functioning." is not even half as funny.
At least I was smart enough to give the Helm of Serenity to my fairy ninja character. Not only it is just about the best headwear for a fairy ninja, but a fairy ninja + CoC + Insanity would equal to something truly terrifying... |
In my latest fight with the Don, my 10th level or so party couldn't lay a hand on the Don in the first round. My ninja had ONE bag of skelly powder, so I thought WTF, try it.
IT WORKED! |
Don prob.s? What prob.s - just use two 10th level Lizardmen fighters with awl pikes (using the fighter "build" in the Beg.s Ref. post). After a few rounds, no more Don and toady.
..I think my 4 Bishops were playing a short game scrable while the the Lizardmen were playing pin the pike on the Don-key. [ 04-27-2004, 11:54 PM: Message edited by: ScottG ] |
I was once trying the big fight in the se-wilderness temple. I hid just behind the corner, at the entrance, and used 1 eye-for-an-eye-potion (one of the best spells, imho) - then a death lord casts death wish, killing none of mine, but mostly all sorceresses :)))

Great idea on the Southeast Wilderness temple. I didnt think of an eye for an eye potion. That would be perfect with about twenty spellcasters casting a round. I must have fought that fight 15 times. I think I went there way to early and I got wiped so many times. It basically took me luck to win that fight and I think I was down to my last party member my Samurai. I think the main problem was that I didnt want to kill those hotties in the back and they kept summoning tough guys to take me out.
