I think I'm missing something here. I have a Samurai who is doing well, many lightning strikes though few crits, but has no extra swings yet. He only gets 2 attacks with sword, one with Wak, one swing each. The stats:

Lev 12 Felpur Samurai (in Swamp)
Str = 76
Int = 60
Dex = 76
Spd = 79
Sense = 70

Close combat = 60
Dual = 60
Crit = 65
Sword = 83 (includes bonus)

Using Enchanted Long Sword and Wakasashi
2 attachs, 1 swing - 1 attack, 1 swing
Attack ratings 34 and 32

I thought with these kind of stats the extra swings would kick in. Maybe missing enough initiative?

Check his armor and encumbrance. Either can cut down on the number of attacks.

P.S. Heavy armor is not a good thing for Samurai.

Yah, I'll check it out. All members of the kitty party are near capacity.

Its definately an encumberance issue. Unload all items you are not using onto the ground (save first so u don't have to repick it up), then go pick a fight. There should be a drastic difference.
BTW, if you don't know
White/Gray-No encumberance
Blue-Little
Green- Medium
Yellow- Heavy
Red- Extreme

Try to stay in the White-Blue borders for encumberance.

encumbrance is very important.
but i'm really retarded about it... i can't stand going beyond white. when anyone turns blue, i throw things away. well, that is, unless someone nearby is willing to buy my junk.

The party is always less than 50% capacity, except for short times after they get alot of booty. I may be able to get down to 45% but not sure if that will do it.

The Initiative rating and the weight of your weapon are also apparently important. Even though the (unenchanted) Katana does less damage, its being lighter and faster, even by only one pound and one plus, make it a better choice than E. Longswd.

Yes keep your encumbrance as low as possible.
below 50% at all times if possible!
