I've only seen one of these, in the NW Retro I think...I was wondering if there were any more of them in the game at all? Are they random spawns in some area? They don't seem to be random spawns in NW Retro...only Coal/Anthracite Golems and various other stuff.

Could be random based on your level and the location. Ran into 2 Flesh Rippers, lev 13, about 180 HP, they have paralyze and possess and ? They look like mummies and I think they only come out at night near the Cemetary.

Hoarder Slimes and Anthracite Golems are always in the Retro ( I met them every game ).
But I never enter a retro before my party has reached lvl 15, so maybe Ziggurat is right.
Flesh Rippers I met only once. IMO there is no respawn of undead near the cemetary after you removed the evil spirit.

There's one set Hoarder slime in the NW Retro. But Hoarder slimes can spawn there (and only there afaik). But getting them to spawn can take a while. Iirc they always start as yellow, so you can enter the dungeon with x-ray, and do a check if there are yellow dots there (accompanied by flesheaters).

That's not foolproof though, since sprites can wander there too, and you need to keep in mind that all three retros share one map.

Is that why Xray shows lots of bad stuff on the map even after it is cleared on that level, sort of like upper Rapax castle?

Yes. X-Ray isn't that useful for the retros. I once downloaded the maps of the retros ( sorry, I forgot the URL ) and I use them to navigate there.
