I cannot get past the closed door on marten's bluff. I've been killing the "spider" like people, sorry forgot their names. I've even read alot of posts about marten's idol, but I still cannot find it. I'm look for I think the switch to open the door.

If you have killed the T'rang you can go through the room with the teleporter that transports the youngers from the t'rang ship. Go through the door , turn left ( all lower marten's bluff ), and the end of the long way go up the stairs ( back into Marten's bluff ) , IIRC the room with the table on the right side contains the lever.

Edit: you can reach the same area of marten's bluff from the swamp, through the mine tunnels and lower marten's bluff. You'll reach the room with the lever from the other side.

You can also get there without killing any T'Rang: Enter combat mode when you're close enough to the sentries that they have warned you twice. Then Run past them (if you're careful, you can also get the stuff in the corner). You prolly have to kill some undead up there once you get upstairs, and there are some nice things hidden around in that little section. And open the door to outside on the other end of the hallway past the T'Rangaporter.
