Hello,
I´ve started the game recently, and my party is around level 10 at the moment - 7 characters including Vi Domina. I´m quite happy with it´s composition, but with all the tech stuff lying around, I would be eveb more happier if I had a Gadgateer ... Is it possible to find an NPC of that type somewhere in the game? I´m also curious about how many "joinable" NPCs exist at all. There´s this Rogue at the entrance of Arnika, who would not be completely useless for me, but the game has just begun, and if possible I´d rather like to find someone more interesting ... |
You can find a Gadgeteer - Madras - pretty early in the game at Trynton. I don't like the Rogue, but you could always take him with you, then dismiss him in favor of someone better later on. Can be a decent frontline fighter if you're lacking firepower, and after a while you'll find him so annoying you won't care if he dies. Perfect meatshield.

Yeah, Madras will join your party (if you want) after you complete his quest.
There are quite a few NPC's you can recruit into the party, but they all have the same drawback: there are places in the game they refuse to enter. Vi, for example, won't enter the water, so you can't take her to Bayjin or the Sea Caves later on. Myles won't go near Marten's Bluff. Players have worked out some tricks to force NPC's into such areas, but then they act as hexed and whine and complain the whole time they're there. This condition goes away automatically once you leave the hated area. Some other NPC's available: a T'Rang Samurai, an Umpani bard, a Rapax mage, a Savant Trooper (the best one, overall), and a Trynnie Ranger. Keep in mind that every NPC takes away experience from your own people, because points for combats are spread evenly across all party members. This does not apply to quest rewards, as those are fixed points regardless of how many are in the group.
NIghtowl2
|
Thanks alot, that´s very helpful. Good timing also, reading it, I´m standing right at Trynton´s doormat ;) ...

Madras has joined me!
But how does he work with his gadgets? I´ve equipped him with as much as he can carry, and tried to use one on the other (or on the omnigun), but it turned out not to function that way ... |
Most gadgets have to be constructed before they can be used. This is done by picking up a gadget piece, clicking the merge button, then clicking on what you want to merge it with. Most gadgets require two pieces. For example, the hinged box from the crashed ship in Arnika can be merged with the doll from one of the houses there to make a Jack In The Box.
Once you have a complete gadget, you activate it with the Use icon from the main screen.
Nightowl2
|
(the Hinged Box, in the house the ship crashed into, not the Broken Black Box from the ship)
