at the end of the game when i killed the savant, his hand falls off and he explodes. then his hand appears as an item and i was unable to pick it up. does anybody know what it means or if you can pick it up?

Yes it is a weapon

there is a bug where you can kill savant in the swamp and get his hand, which is called cobalt power glove.

any item editor will have it listed if you are interested.

how do you kill him in the swamp?

I think you just hit combat mode when you see him or something along those lines. Hes still alive at the end.

hmmm, I'll have to try that in a new game

I just ran into the dark savant in the swamp with my pansy party. I beleive it is possible to start combat before he starts yelling. There's no way i'm going to even think about fighting him with this party. I'll just take the fake AD and move on, thank you very much...

Its the Cobaltine Power Glove. Pretty good stats, you can get it if you import your party from Crusaders. Here are the stats (off the top of my head but pretty accurate)

Damage: 8-32 double vs robot
Initiative: +2
To Hit: +2
Type: Modern Weapon
Charges: 8 (but you can use it an infinite amount of times)
Attack Range: Long
Paralyze: 25%
Kill: 5%
