I’m just curious— Why does Wizardry 8 not have its own title? The other games in the series had surprisingly good/dramatic titles, going all the way back to “Proving Grounds of The Mad Overlord.” Actually, I think the only feeble title in the series was “Return of Werdna” (or whatever part 4 was called… I always seem to get it slightly wrong.) So why is part 8 just, “Wizardry 8”? I mean, come on! You’re finishing up a trilogy that consisted of “Bane of The Cosmic Forge” and “Crusaders of The Dark Savant”… two very cool titles!

(yes, I know this is a completely trivial question, and the lack of a title doesn’t affect anything in any way. Like I said, I’m just curious.)

Way way, way way OT, but...

Since you are posting trivialities, I have to ask: is the line about entering the catacombs in your sig a reference to Bard's Tale? Everytime I see that in one of your posts, I remember it, but it's just a hazy fog, lost in memories of too many other great RPGs...

Baldur's Gate
Wizardy 7
Might and Magic III and IV (I think - who can keep count?, but the later ones were very very bad)
Fallout
Jagged Alliance 2
Betrayal at Krondor
I hesitate to add Daggerfall to this list since I did not finish, even though I put many hours into it...

Both lines in my sig are from The Bard's Tale. The first line is what the priest says when you tell him the name "Tarjan" in the Mad God's Temple (he then lets you enter the catacombs.) The second line is a warning found on the walls in the catacombs themselves. There are a series of 15 doors, and if you walk east through all of them, you're trapped (as I recall, the last of the 15 doors is a one-way door, so if you go through it, that's it. I also seem to remember a Soul-Sucker being in there, but I'm not 100% sure anymore... it's been a few years, you know...)

Might & Magic 9 didn't have a title either...
This seems to be a sign of companies on their last legs, as both Sir-Tech and 3DDO went under not long after their release.

Someone suggested a Wizardry 8 title of simply, "The Ascension." That made sense to me.

Couldn't happen. Ultima 9 was titled "Ascension".
I thought "Destiny on Dominus" woulda worked.

Might & Magic 3 was Isles of Terra
Might & Magic 4 was Clouds of Xeen with 5 being an add on called
Might & Magic 5 Dark side of Xeen. These could be played seperatly or together; Together was may better!

I believe Wizardry 8 was to be called "The butt kicking of the Dark Savant"!
Ok, I made that up...

Considering that EVERY Wiz game used the "---- of ----" format for their titles, I guess we could assume Wiz8 would have had something along those lines (though I'm not so sure about "The Buttkicking of the Dark Savant".... lol)

Actually, though, it's kind of refreshing NOT to have a subtitle. Recent games are getting a bit ridiculous with their long-winded titles (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness" springs to mind immediately, but there are plenty more like it.)
