I'd really like some input on the all figther parties y'all have tried. I'd like to give it a try next. My only reservation in doing this is the "portal" spell. It must make things a lot more time consuming without it but I'd like to try it. I'd appreciated input on what races worked well with the fighter types. e.g. I've never used the Dracon, are they useful in any capacity?

Yeah, Dracons are very useful. They make great fighters and can also breathe acid. Which comes in handy later in the game when fighting large groups of weak monsters.

Over at the VN Boards, ariana8 ran a six fighter party to completion. Here is a link to the thread:

You may try asking her about her experience.

So, what are some good formations for non-magic parties?

For a basher party the "flat" layout works well: 2 or 3 characters in each of the left quadrant, center, and right quadrant locations. Put the ones fighting with extended weapons on the flanks, so they can "reach out and touch" opponents on the other side. If someone is getting beat up too badly and you can't/don't want to heal him/her, move the injured character to the rear quadrant. Conversely, if you want a character to receive "extra attention" from the monsters, such as to build up Shield or Stealth, move that character to the front quadrant for a while.

ahh, I've done this party before, very nice in teory but in reality very very hard to accomplish as you don't have healing spell and you don't have much money to buy potion.

my formation is 1 guy on right and 1 on left ( both use polearm ). 2 in middle ( dual wield sword ). 2 at back ( also use polearm ).

the race? since I don't use a race twice I have 6 different race.

The lack of magic is defiately showing. They do ok most of the time, but sometimes you just need that protection stuff. It also doesn't help when your fighters miss a lot of the time. I did wimp out a little and took 1 Rogue in place of a fighter.

There are scrolls of missile shield, armorplate and the like. Only level 3, but much better than nothing. I use them regulary in pure hybrid parties (expert ironman) for some time.

Kakero 06-18-2003 06:02 AM

The figthers can cast those scrolls? I just sell them and get the money to buy potions.

Wereboar 06-18-2003 07:14 AM

Yes, fighters can read srcolls. And AFAIK there are no potions of missile shield and armorplate. When you fight say Deathsting Apusses in ironman mode, some protection from scrolls might save many healing potions and ressurrect powders.
