..anybody know what's up with this? I've heard about it but I don't
know what to do. I know there are those Runes on some of the stones
and I've touched them but I think it has to be in a certain order.

The order doesn't matter. There are 6 runes and you must activate all six. Once you do this, the SE corner of the cemetery will light up slightly. Place an ordinary dagger into the wall, and some mushrooms will appear (outside the wall, IIRC). Stepping into the circle of mushrooms takes you into the dungeon. You'll want to do this whole process in one pass rather than starting it, leaving, and coming back. Leaving may give erratic results.

Maps are available on other sites. They were drawn by Moni.

Good luck,
tuck

Also, before you enter any "retro" dungeon, make sure you have decent lockpick abilities. The cemetary dungeon is more confusing than the other two, IMO, stay with it.

What "other two" are you refering to?
I'm in the dungeon now. Had to hire and dump miles for the dagger first.
What's the point of this place?

Variol,

There are a total of three retro dungeons. The other dungeons are in the Mountain Wilderness and the Northern Wilderness. All three are activated by touching runes, placing an object into an illuminated stone or wall, and then stepping into a circle of mushrooms. The objects to be placed into the stone or wall vary - in the case of the cemetary, a dagger is used. IIRC, a short staff and a longsword are needed for the other dungeons.

The reasons for the dungeons are:
1) To provide a throwback to earlier Wiz games
2) To provide additional experience and practice at skills like lockpicking
3) To provide some useful objects. For example, in one dungeon you can fight Nebdar and get the Amulet of Nedbar. It's a good Amulet to have.

The primary reason to avoid the dungeons is:
You're not strong enough yet. To the best of my knowledge, most monsters in the dungeons are pre-programmed (as compared to other monsters which are proportional to your level). You may find certain dungeons to be especially unforgiving if you are at too low of a level. My advice: keep a saved game from outside the dungeon just in case you get in over your head.

Cheers,
tuck

NOW you tell me! I'm already in the dungeon and I didn't save outside.
I'm about lvl 8 right now and doing ok except for the undead "the spirit"
I think it's called. It took me about four tries and I finally paralyzed it
with turn undead. I was lucky I saved just before entering the room. I just went
up a level from that combat so I'll have to take knock knock 'cos I can't force all the rooms and have no thief.
I hope I can find a way out!
I'm looking forward to the other dungeons. I may have to post a request for hit for
those. You think the strategy guide would tell you this stuff?

tuckyboy 06-15-2003 05:27 PM

Variol,

You should always have a periodic save that you can go back to.

If you want to be spoiled on the Retro dungeons, see:

Thanks; I'm totally lost in this stupid place. I'll check that site
so I can find my way out. (unless someone can enlighten me)

If 'the Spirit' you defeated was called something like 'Baron Engolunds Ghost', you found the exit. It is indicated by a mushroom circle that shimmers blue, not green.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 06-16-2003 06:25 AM

I went to the map and found the exit. I did take on the baron. I'm
looking forward to the other two dungeons. I also better keep an eye
out for the other two items I'm going to need for that.
