you'll need a short staff.

Near the Rapax Rift? That one sounds to me like the circle of stones...like those associated with a plain long sword. It's been a while since I played the game.

From what I can tell through the above link, it is the long sword at that location.

The circle of stones takes a normal long sword to activate the magic mushrooms...

sure it need a plain long sword? if my memory serve me correct it need a short staff.

northern wilderness: short staff
mountain wilderness: long sword (Im sure, I just did it yesterday)

The M. wilderness dungeon is the only one, I play, the monsters are not bad and you get some nice stuff.
