I read with interest the posts about W8 "dying."
W8 is, for me, an absolute highlight of my limited experience playing games of this type. I bought W* based upon fond memories of playing a W2? back on an apple II in the early 80s. I'm playing W8 through a second time now, with a different party, and its fun but not as muchfun as when it was totally new to me.

Anyway, are there any suggestions for another game to try that is similar to W8? I have to admit that I'm not the hugest fan of BG mostly because the interface/top down view. Mayby I'll have to get over that.

Ideas? Winter is coming...

How about wizardry 7?
But be warned, the interface and view are very different.

morrowind has the first person view and is a great rp-ing game, with deep character development (lets you make yourself any way you want). it isn't a group party like W8 however.

the might and magic games are very similar. don't get the newest one tho, it was a sorry addition to the lineup. try MM6, 7 or 8. lotsa fun on all 3 with a full 6 member party, all first person.

gothic is another first person rpg, also only with one party member, you. gothic 2 will be out soon and should, according to german previews, kick serious butt.

i'm bound to think of a zillion more when i sign off.

V***V

oh yeah. Summoner!! its from last year, but OMG!! i just replayed it and LOVED it as much as the first time!!!

I'm been pondering the same question. While I enjoy Wiz 8, the replay value for me is starting to wear thin. It would probably be ill-advised to attempt Morrowwind on my current system (need a new graphics card, badly - but I'm going to wait till the new year). I like the 6 person party RPG style. I enjoyed Baldur's Gate, but the engine and 3/4 perspective seemed a little lacking. I've yet to play BG II, ToB, SoA, or Icewind Dale I & II. Some folks have indicated that Icewind Dale might make a good next game. Neverwinter Nights has been suggested, though I've also heard that the single player storyline is less than brilliant; also, it is a solo character game.

So any other recommendations?

Cheers,

BB

I just yesterday bought w8 and my friend is quite expert on this game.
He told me to start to play w6, then w7 and w8...
You can play each wizardy for it self, but the saga begins at w6.
Ain't there wizardy 9 ? I heard that it has came out already, why should you start playing that?
I'm middle of Wizard&Warrior too... There's great forums here for the games!

I think you could try Wizards&Warriors - this (party-RPG) game also has turn-based combat system and the same screen-view like Wizardry. W&W is also very interesting in gameplay, and not bad in graphic. However, W&W loses something after playing W8.

Well I have played W&W Before W8 and I say if W&W loses something
after playing W8, W&W wins something after playing W8, if you have played W&W first... Hard enought? Well It's oppinion issue...

Hey,
I knoe one. It's alot like Wiz (and infact, from the same company, SIRTECH). If U guys don't mind old games, U should try REALMS OF ARKANIA. There's theree Episodes (or just but the TRILOGY set), Blade of Darkness(1993, i think), Star Trail(1994) and Shadows Over Riva(1996).
It's played alot like Wiz, only a lot more HARDCORE. There's te thousand of skills to deal with and U'll spend alot of time dealing with stats. But they'll be pretty useful in the end. There's unusual skills like Lying, History, Geography, Nature, Arcane lore, even Seducing!!!
COmbat is Turn based, and U have six Characters in 1 party too. There's alot of NPC's to deal with, and traveling is extremely real( apart from combat, there's terrain danger, hunting, gathering herbs, the like). The onli difference is that only one NPC and accompany U at one time. But the best part of the game is its story line.

Too bad, the titles are pretty hard to come by nowadays

Whoa! I actually bought Shadows Over Riva (back in 199 - something) and wouldn't compare it to the Wizardry series, other than it also has a turn based combat system.

Mind you, those who found the Wiz8 combat tedious (waddle, waddle, next monster, waddle, waddle) will HATE this game. There is too much swinging and missing/parrying.

The story was good, though.

Whoops.

Not like Wizardry? Well, maybe it's just me.
